I think I was able to duplicate what you were trying. I opened a new transparent image, flood-filled the bottom layer with the brick pattern, then created a new layer. I selected the text tool and created text as a vector so that I could size it, alter the stroke and fill colors, etc., then I clicked Selections>From vector object, and then converted the vector layer to a raster layer. Okay I have been playing with a wall and I added my text to it. Now I want to use my fire eyecandy effect to make the text seem like it is on fire. Humph, and I thought this would be easy too! But of course I seem to have a problem with the section. When I go to use my effects they are grayed out, even though I didn't merge the layer yet.
