Registered User Posts: 1 04/12/08 11:25 Golden Huntress	Tags : None Hi, I was formerly 'wickiwackiwoo' but there seems to be a problem with that now that this board is now under Yuku. Anyhow, I changed my username and I like it better anyway, it suits me! So my question is How to get rid of that nasty color fringing (in my photos it is usually blue and purple!) without having to purchase special filters or spend hours picking at a photo that has a lot of purpling (tree leaves, faces and hair, etc.)?? Is there any really good way to get rid of it, or should I just get ready to open my pocketbook <sigh>? I'm on a very strict budget, you see. I hope someone can help, thanks !!

I dont work with a lot of photos.....but as soon as those that do come in I'm sure they can answer right away,,,,,,in the mean time....try and use the "Enhance Photo" tool......one step, may work or you may have to play with the settings.....Yellow is a purple killer.....so maybe warm it up a bit....with "Automatic Color Balance"....thats all I know......LOL! I have a prime example but it's a very big image & I would have to crop part of it out to show you. Wow, X has a purple-fringe fixer?? Must be nice!! I have PSP 7, it was given to me several years ago for free by an old friend, as a gift. I have so many filters installed to it by this time, I've lost count! But nothing to clean up fringing. I never really gave that problem any real thought till I saw it mentioned someplace and it set me thinking... It's mainly that annoying blue line you get around tree leaves set against a bright background, or even around people's hair with the same kind of BG. I have tried the ordinary color adjustments but most of the time it doesn't help any. Sometimes a hint of purple on things isn't so bad, but other times it just doesn't belong in a picture! Again, thanks... I found a free filter at blueprograms.com and I'm thinking of downloading it, even though it has a number of other features that I really don't need, as I already have similar filters elsewhere...

Registered User Posts: 562 04/14/08 2:52 Chey_4ever	Bob I believe she is working with her own photo, that she herself shot.....I've been reading up on it and it IS called fringing......not many experts agree on its cause.....lol....its like a purple or green, bluish halo around certain objects when the shot is taken in strong sunlight or a strong light is shot, such as a christmas light bulb........what I think, for what its worth, is that the light refracts into a prism and certain colors are amplified around an object.......Duh Me! The filter that I posted for her promises to correct this......lol....who knows! I dont have anything to test it on! Loves C

Registered User Posts: 567 04/14/08 5:15 Chey_4ever	See what I know.....lol......I have a cheapy lil viatar.....takes excellent pix but one doesnt have much control over any of the settings and certainly not a camera filter......I have to say here.....that my Dad was an amature photographer......he had a dark room, an enlargerand all the smelly chems......No color film at the time......lol....he would take pix of the new babies on base and would get the funnest faces with a pickle.......I would sit for hours using the oil based photo paint tinting them all....oooooops a lil went a very long way..and thats about all I know.....So that should be a very useful hint! I'm sure the camera is to blame, it is also what by today's standards would be classed as a cheapie (even tho' it cost me 400 dollars in 2001!) My best setting is only at 3.1 megapixels, I think that was considered pretty ritzy a few years ago; but now of course we have better technology and higher resolution. There doesn't seem to be any means of shooting in RAW format, either. '...light refracts into a prism and certain colors are amplified around an object,' that's a good enough explanation for me, LOL. The Camp Ratty site had a PDF file about the aberration but it got extremely technical, downright scientific IMHO... Well, if I can figure out how to post it here, I will go and get a crop or two of one of my images that will show the problem really well.... OK, I got something! Two of many examples, these were handy so I used them. See the blue/purplish outlines around the tree leaves, and a certain celebrity's hair and facial features? Not always so bad in outdoor scenes, but the blue hair can get really annoying... 'Kay, I'm off to check out the PFree site....thnx

So far I can barely see any big changes in some of my blue-hair photos...but maybe with some practice? I will bookmark the page explaining, and see how it goes.

I'm guessing that the one with the 'blue hair' will be the toughest one to fix...I have a ton of images like those, 'screencaps' of a particular favorite TV series (bet it won't be hard to guess which!!) and made using only the humblest means, my diggy camera and of course, PSP. <Shrug> Capture cards are not that expensive but I have no good means of hooking up my computer to my TV, lol. So, on I go, persevering with my camera and suffering the 'fringeing blues,' ....lol. But with a little luck our new PFree filter will help.

Loves C OOOOHHHH, ... wavy gravy!!!! And you said you didn't know how to use it!!??? I'm scrambling now to 'take notes' on just how you did that!! I think that is plenty good enough for maybe all of my images...we will see. KILL THE BLUE!!!

I have 2 online community albums with a ton of images; so, many of them will never get 'fixed' (they are just too numerous) but at least those future ones will get the necessary adjustments... OH, and how does one post a siggy here when the only option below is "Don't Use a Signature"?

I did it in PSP....... did not use the new filter......I like you, found it to be so subtle that I didnt see a change at all and all those sliders.....lol......but I use the "change to target" found in your tool box, under the smudge tool, with almost everything I do....
