If you've ever thought about wanting to learn another language, it's absolutely the way to go. I'm lovin' it, and doing pretty well with it.
I have bought a couple closets full of the clothing from Japan over the last 8 months ( hooked ).

Yep, that's me. Some are aware how deep I've gotten into ancient Japanese history. I have also purchased Rosetta Stone's Japanese language
"teacher".

That's very cool that you're into japanese things, including the language. It's not a very easy language to learn. I am half japanese myself, and have taken japanese in high school and college...but since I don't use it, I lose it. |

I am sooo glad to hear positive feedback.
When I left the work force last August, I left behind three close friends who were with other agencies. We kept in touch at least once a week by email. My wife took that picture 3 weeks ago. I sent it to all all three of them to let them know " where I was at " since leaving. I haven't heard from them since...sad. I spoke to another friend, who knows us all. He said one of them had told him that he was insulted that I would get into this, much less send him a picture of me in Japanese clothing. The reasoning behind his thoughts were, because Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor. Ok, I'm gonna try and break this down a bit. The " friend " who made this remark drives a Mercedes. Memory serving, it seems I recall a little issue we had with the Germans, manufacturer of his car. One of the other two " friends " drives a Hundai ( his wife owns one too ). I think Korea makes those.
And lastly, the remaining person on the list drives a Honda. Uh, Japanese made, right? Heres my point, if your going to be a racist, or a bigot, that is absolutely your choice. I will not pretend I am better than anyone else because their beliefs differ from mine. BUT, if you are going to stand on a soap box, have your ducks in-a-row. Either go all the way with your stance, or don't go at all. Picking and choosing what your are going to select as a target for your ire, just makes one look like a total fool. |

Chuck, I'm sorry that happened. The world has many rich and interesting cultures and I think all countries, including ours, have dark days in thier
history. The world gets smaller every day and we're all in this together.

Well said Nanson.....I grew up an Army brat, later a Navy wife, and later still an Army Mom, I've lived all over the world.......what did I learn from
this?.....not only geography but tolerance, respect, and not least of all, I came away with a greater understanding of them all!
Each culture has a great and unique lifestyle.....in order to accept the part you have to respect the whole! Its like ,when you attend a church, and choose "thou shall not steel, but dont accept "thou shall not kill"! I spent a good bit of time in Mississippi when I was a child.....thats a whole new can of worms.....but that was a good lesson too! I saw what not to do! Raven, I think that you have choosen to dive into this venture, and carry it to this height is not only commendable but extreamly thrilling......to learn the language is absolutly wonderful! Narrow minded people, lead narrow lives! Loves C |

Wow, that's pretty sad...sorry to hear that Raven.
Unfortunately racism, bigotry, or what-have-you, will always be around...something the human race is
stuck with. Luckily there are good people that have good hearts (and brains) that will keep the balance right. This world is too rich with cultural diversity,
to dwell on on moments in history, and not appreciate our place or each other.

Chuck--you really take me back in memory! My son, Steven who passed away in August 2005 was very active in Aikido Kokikai. He had a brain stem stroke with a
Locked In Syndrome 23 months prior and was left a quadreplegic with his brain intact, but no way to communicate with us except eye movements. We was kept on
antibiotics almost exclusively until his body finally succumbed to the effects of their rejection. He was literally a mind trapped in an unresponsive
body--weighed down like a diving bell--and I gave thanks when he died that At last he was freed of that useless body and could once again fly like a butterfly.
However, Steve was a fighter and firmly believed in the power of being all you can be--as far as I know he is the only person who received a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido while being totally paralyzed! He did this by constantly doing all that he could accomplish under the circumstances--overcoming constant pain and using meditation to Center himself. Steve was gradually immersing himself in the Japanese culture and I still have a couple of learning Japanese CDs that he used. I still keep in touch with the Dojo members and will never forget the constant support they gave him while in the Nursing Home which was 50 miles from me. I just wanted you to know all of this, Chuck..Be all you can be!! Good luck to you!! Here's a thumbnail of his picture the Dojo presented to me--Steve in his beloved Gi.......
