Hi all... you know I don't post much, even tho I love being here on occasion. I'm far from a tekkie but all that I know is self
taught with this laptop of mine, just over two years now... coming up on 56 in several days, so I'm an old dog still trying!
Via yuku, I've met a gal in a few forums and I'm asking this on her behalf... altho I've always wondered myself as well. What causes the dreaded red x where an image used to be? I understand how an image can be lost once you move it from its original Photobucket spot in your album, but where is the image 'hiding' if the red x has appeared? I know we've all had yuku woes within the past several weeks; in my primary forum, all of our smilies were replaced with red x's - but the issue was resolved in a few days within yuku.
Here's the situation: This gal met a guy in one of the sports forums here. It had become an online romance over time and they were going to meet at the end of May. About a week ago (I'm guessing) they were talking on the phone; she in North Carolina, he in Michigan - he said he had a headache and would call her back shortly... that was the last time they spoke. He had a massive stroke at the age of 46. His mother called to tell her the news a few days later after no one had been able to reach him. In his private messages to her here in yuku, he had included some photos of himself... all she has now are the red x's. I suggested right clicking on the x knowing that works occasionally, but not this time. She said other members are suggesting that she contact yuku support, giving her hope that they can retrieve the images from his yuku account, saved outgoing messages, anything that might work.
Logically, my brain is telling me that he may have done a copy & paste of his photo thus rendering it temporary at best... is that correct? If it's not in a storage system of some kind, it's just floating around in cyberspace, isn't it? But here's where I get confused... what is the difference between the red x and stealing bandwidth? If I post a pic from my PB album & someone does a copy & paste, the pic goes bye-bye usually with the 'exceeded bandwidth' image, yes? If I had done a copy & paste rather than inserting a pic from either PB or my hard drive, then someone tried to copy & paste MY copy & paste, what would result?
Any help you can give would be most appreciated! As I said in the beginning of my time here, I could see I was coming to learn a lot from the best... and learn, I have. In fact, I thought there was a thread here about the red x which is what brought me here in search of help for the young lady; when I looked through several forums without any luck, I decided to put my question into the wind here at Raven's...
Thanks in advance,
Debbie
