Cloning tool |

I may be the last to know this, but I just discovered that the cloning tool can function between layers and even between other (open) images. You can
right-click to capture the desired area from one layer and then left-click to start the cloning on a new layer in the same image or in a new image. Guess it
makes sense, since the clone tool basically copies and pastes, but this is an easy way to combine elements, e.g., between two photos.

That's a very good tip and good information to know. Thanks for posting that.

The clone tool is indeed a very useful one which I use very often - it can clone between any open images and of course as you say, layers. Combinations of use
between the clone and the erase tools for example is a very useful method in merging parts of layers etc.
Also a good tip is to select the actual tool brush parameters to feathered brush for example - makes for interesting and less sudden paste & copy cloning and gives you considerable control over the entire function. Web site - www.johnartstudio.com - Under re-organisation but still

Wow, John! You've pointed out an obvious option that I've totally overlooked, and that is using different brush tips for the cloning tool. I've
done this for most of the other tools, but somehow I never considered the added flexibility it would give to the cloning tool. Thanks!

Another neat trick is to change the blend mode. Works great for fixing too dark or too light areas
please check out my web site and of course sign the guest book so I know you were there! www.alockintime.com |

Hi: Can I use the cloning tool to hide a logo? I am making a banner using the Winchester boys (from series on CW; Supernatural). I tried using the cloning tool but I can't seem to get it right.

Yes you can - I did a quick cloning effort on your small picture - a bit lumpy perhaps but caused basically as the image is so small. It would be MUCH, MUCH easier on a larger picture however. I also used the bright/dark tool also as it was difficult to control the clone shades - again a larger image would make it much easier.

bosartis wrote:Hi Bosartis: I know it seems like years since I've gotten back to you but the last time I tried to get into the forum I had problems and so I moved on to doing other things. Anywho I do have a larger picture and here it is. I have tried and tried but for the life of me I can't seem to use the clone tool right. Whenever I try the section ends up all smudged and you can tell that that someone(that would be me) has been trying to edit it.
